A few months back, I had the extreme fortune of attending a panel discussion hosted by Minds Behind the Music and the Wix.com NYC Lounge in which the guests and the audience discussed technological innovation and music. On this panel were two young entrepreneurs who were launching their new mobile gaming platform later that year in May 2016.
These two founders were Keegan Carter and Davon Robinson of Moor Games, a mobile gaming brand which has so far launched "Fetty Wap: Nitro Nation Stories." As hinted at in the name, this game is built on the persona of hip-hop celebrity Fetty Wap, who has collaborated with Moor on this project.
In this Q&A, I sit down and learn more about the undertakings of Keegan and Davon in creating a creative and media company. These two African-American recent college graduates teach us all lessons of perseverance and aspiration as they both push into a new and tough business frontier.

What's Moor Games exactly? What are some of its key features?
Moor Games is the flagship brand of Moor, a holding company of brands that target the multicultural demographic. Moor Games is focused on fusing cultural influencers into the mobile gaming space. Some key features of our products are stellar graphics, high interactivity and influencer brand integration.
You're working with Fetty Wap on this game. Apart from branding and marketing, what has working with Fetty Wap done for Moor Games? How did his persona affect the development and creative process?
Working with Fetty Wap has been a learning process for us as well. Beyond the scope of fusing his songs and likeness into the game, we realized that we are working with a creative overall.
This turned out to be a great thing. His opinion on certain things helped us pinpoint valuable additions to the game that we didn't originally think about. Working with him on building the product versus building it and presenting it to him has been a goal of ours from the beginning.
We are now happy to see that this approach works and can be looked at as the new norm.

How did the two of you meet? And how did you all get going into mobile gaming?
We went to high school together and were track buddies originally.
Davon had an idea of fusing celebrities into the mobile gaming space and reached out to Keegan to pursue the opportunity. Through extensive research we realized that there was true value in the influencer aspect of a product. From there we set out to secure our first partner and launch our first project.
With the rise and evolution of mobile phone usage, what's the market like and what would you like for the future of Moor Games?
The market has been ready for a new approach to gaming. We think that the players in the market are now just starting to realize that though. We still predict that the inclusion of influencers, not only in games, but also in the creation of games will grow.
Moor Games wants to and will be the leaders in the multicultural gaming market. In our opinion, multiculturalism is wide-reaching. It is more inclusive of everyone rather than exclusive of anyone.

Not only does Fetty Wap keep a hip record on the air, but he's developed his persona into a cultural icon. Fetty has partnered with Moor Games on Nitro Nation
What was it like getting funding for Moor Games? Did you all work with any angel investors? Or did you just pay for development with money you saved, or raise money from friends and family?
Getting funding was quite difficult for us being that 1) we were exploring an unproven market and 2) that we were seen as unproven ourselves. We soon learned that there were more things working against us than in our favor when it came to venture capital fundraising.
For that reason we found other ways to execute through partnerships and uniquely structured deals and here we are today. We have yet to raise any amount of capital from institutional investors.
What advice do you have for those in a similar position as you once were before deciding to go into to tech/software development/ mobile gaming?
1) Make sure you've found value before anything else. Everything starts and ends with you, remember that.
2) Learn, learn, learn. You've got to know what you're field...well.
3) Just go for it. There is a million ways to get things done. Don't spend too much time attempting to execute the most common way (i.e. raising money, etc)
